The primary objective of Power On Community, "Friends Helping Friends - Asheville" is to provide a mechanism for non-profit organizations in our community to assist each other. The intent is that the organizations will provide this assistance as a part of their normal "day to day" business and that it will not require additional money or programing to be achieved. While we realize there is a lot of this co-operation today between non-profits, our objective is to somewhat "formalize" these relationships and make all organizations aware of how they might give and receive help with other non-profits. Think of it as a "Pay If Forward" for non-profits. The following are some examples of how this might work.
Organization A is a non-profit organization that provides Foster Care for children. Although the foster parents are reimbursed for the care of these children, on occasion, some of the parents will require help with child care or need a "respite" of a half day or day. Organization B is a non-profit that provides Day Care as a part of their mission, and is selected to participate in the “Power On Community” program. They can then assist Organization A with their some of their needs and requirements as a normal part of their mission.
Organization A owns their own facility and has meeting rooms or conference rooms that are used by the organization. Organization B does not own a facility or their facility is such that they do not have adequate meeting space. Organization A is selected to participate in the “Power On Community” program and would then work with Organization B to use their facilities based on scheduling and convenience of Organization A.
Organization A is an organization that is responsible for the beautification of rivers, parks and public areas. As part of their business routine, they have an agreement with a nursery supply company to receive plants and flowers at a greatly reduced cost. Organization B owns their own facility but has need for landscaping improvements on occasion. Organization A is selected to participate in the “Power on Community” program. Organization B then may be able to work with Organization A and their supplier to obtain plants and flowers at a reduced cost.
Organization A is a Performing Arts venue and has regularly scheduled programming consisting of ticketed events. Organization B is an organization that receives various donated product and goods and re-distributes them (i.e. food bank, soup kitchen, thrift shop, etc). Organization A is selected to participate in the “Power on Community” program and they conduct a "special" performance where, in addition to your ticket price, there is a requirement to bring an item(s) of goods or products that will be given to Organization B.
